Notes
Nelson-Trevino (via Back 9) is a jaw dropping and gorgeous route unlike anything else we have to paddle in the Midwest. This route goes with the current for your entire trip, paddling through a silver maple forest, dotted with bald eagles, cardinal flowers, and plenty of sounds of nature.
This route encounters numerous strainers and requires the ability to turn quickly and paddle hard. At moderate to high water it can be extra challenging. On rare occasions the current flows backwards (from the Mississippi to the Back 9 Landing). A little over a mile is on the main channel of the Mississippi River. Check with Broken Paddle Guiding for up to date current speeds, strainer locations, and any other pertinent information.
