Itinerary

2 days / 1 night

  • Ella landing to West Newton landing

  • 24 miles total

  • 6-8 hours of active paddling over 2 days

We will launch from Ella, Wisconsin on the Chippewa River. Over the first 10 miles of our paddle we will enjoy excellent wildlife viewing opportunities as we float to the confluence of the Mississippi River and Chippewa River where we will set up camp on a sand bar. Here we will cook our dinner over a glowing fire as we observe the mighty Mississippi from its shore. After a night’s rest in our tents we will cook breakfast over the fire and commence our day downstream. After about 2-3 hours of paddling we will arrive at Lock and Dam #4. Here we will undergo a safe passage through the impressive lock structure. Shortly after passing through the Lock, we will stop in Alma, WI for lunch. Following lunch we will launch from Alma and paddle another 5 miles to our extraction point on the Minnesota side where we will be shuttled back to Wabasha.

Day 1
